Intro and question

My name is Terry, I am a 62 year old man who is semi retired because of a back injury and surgery. I have decided to embark on a restoration project of a 1977 Holiday Rambler Motorhome. The reason I chose this particular motorhome is th as that it was built on a 1 ton Ford frame and has the 460 cdi engine. I also must confess it was the year I graduated high school. I had aspirations of traveling the U.S. in the most beautiful mini motorhome. It was the year of the bicentennial and my focus was to see every state and their history. Well, needless to say, I hadn't saved enough from part time job. That and being an " adult " now meant rent, utilities, the maintenance on my day to day vehicle. So that jouney was not taken, but it was also not forgotten.
I found my dream motorhome, not quite as beautiful as i had remembered ( 10 years just parked, 20 projects started by the previous owners, none completed. The prized 460 still intact, sort of. I embarked on this project 2 months ago and have ran into a problem that I didn't see having. The fuel pump is shot. Simple enough I thought ( I know " thinking again on my own" ). It came with a Carter hi-flow 0-2440, no longer able to cross reference even with Carter. The parts stores looked it up and sent me away with the one called for....well the problem was it had a straight arm and the one I removed resembles a dogs hind leg. I have poured over page after page of fuel pumps that are supposed replacements. Most have been straight arms a few bent but not quite right. I need help with this one, because also my 8 yr old neighbor's son help "grandpa" by his straightening up the garage while I was gone. So its most likely at the dump...can't even rebuild it.
Thanks for the Welcome,
reddness0930

Welcome to FTE. I can't help with the pump issue, but to say, you might want to consider electric.

As you find your way around, check out your state chapter too. You may well have a very knowledgeable neighbor.

I feel your back pain, i broke mine 5 1/2 years ago, but i must say enjoy the experience of restoring the r.v. because in the end when you work on it, enjoying the time, you will find the work came that much more beautiful. Good luck!
