No. Flies don't land on your picnic food because they like it, they just want to annoy and disgust you by walking around in it. Same goes for all the dillweeds that will be similarly attracted.
I have an example of what could happen. On another board (Mulitple truck brands @ "http://forums.vmag.com/") which is open to all, the ECO-***** and other children just about killed the boards (mostly fords) due to spamming and flooding the site with immature behavior.
The webmaster had a very tough time with managing (don't really ever control) the threads and eventually restarted those sections from scratch. Very little ford traffic these days.
They have a very good suburban site with the same quality of people as here. And yes, i also own a suburban (1995). Now own a 2002 excursion.
Just thought you would like to know what could happen.
I can certainly appreciate all the "no"s here, I am doing what I normally do, assuming that all people are all honest, genuine people like all of you at FTE. This is certainly wrong, I bought tickets to Ozzfest this weekend from a scalper who sold me tickets that had already been scanned, but I assumed that he was an honest person. I like aerocolorado's comment, it was right on the money. It would sure be nice if we could find decent people to participate in this, because I love lambasting jerks who don't really know anything about cars, they just think that what they have is the best, and they have no idea why. Nothing's more humiliating than being shown how to repair a Chevy by a Ford guy, I do it all the time. The absolute most humiliating moment ever is doing repairs to imports, I insist on it at cruise ins, it really puts the pizza delivery boy hot rodders in their place. TK
Okay, Now let's all consider the effect it might have on the integrity of FTE!
The pro's and con's about something that is owned by SOME ONE ELSE for OUR benefit.
Also, have a read at the charter of FTE access to it is from the home page.
Let's weigh the good from the bad shall we ?

Just the title 'Ford vs. the competition' is throwing down the gauntlet. We know our Ford trucks are better, so why put down someone else's ride to prove something we already know.
Besides that, Carlene's first post and aerocolorado's post perfectly describe other good reasons not to.
>Point taken eagerly, Carlene, but I'd still like to get my hands on ?>some non-Ford tech without ever leaving the comfort of our home at >FTE. You gotta know the enemy, right? If there is any factual >representation of people's debates, then it could be good for all of >us to get a peek at the dark side of Motorsports. I don't know about >y'all, but I never get my feelings hurt on the internet anyway, so >it's not like there's potential for damage here, if it gets nasty >again, just shut it down. TK
I agree with that. If we know what the competition is doing then we can use more factual information when defending our fords. Also by have that forum we can see what the competition might be doing better and by seeing what they might be doing better we can better improve our own vehicles. But if it gets nasty, just shut it down, and besides its just words and if you can let words from a message board get to you, youn need to get help cause they ain't nothin but words being said from people you mostly likely will never meet so why let them get to you?

Ken, can you set the parameters of a forum to limit who can post? Maybe along the lines of a 50 or so minimum post count would keep the one time wonders at bay. Or up Reds (Dennis) workload and give him final say and ability to set posting privileges. If you made it a true moderated forum, I don't think anyone would want the workload of approving all posts before public viewing. I did that to a forum once it it quickly snowballed into a full time job.
Just thinking, can you make it so a new user has to have at least one post before being allowed to post in "General"? It sure would cut down on the "My first post and my truck be busted, can ya fix it?" type posts, they would at least realize that there is more than just one forum.
It seems to me that if you don't allow the thread then you may as well be "preaching to the choir". However, I can definitely relate to explosive threads that result in name calling and personality bashes. Furthermore, I find it very difficult to relate to "we are the best" crowd. I know we have it here, but I take it with a grain of salt. Maybe, just maybe, "nothing is better, nothing is best", ( Bob Dylan, The Basement Tapes, Nothing is Delivered) There always seems to be a degree of separation in any comparison that can lead to argument and misunderstanding. It does not always mean that one is better, it just may mean that one is different. From this platform, one can argue the merits of anything and still preserve a mutal respect for everyone's feelings and thoughts. We do it here everyday in the forum. However, unrestrained emotion does get the better of some on occasion. I was not here for any "hanging in Florida" and I am glad of it.
Therefore, this is probably best left to those that would have to manage the thread. We, as non-moderators, may not appreciate the amount of work that goes into keeping something like that under control. We, as regular forum participants, know that we can be mature debaters, but the unknown element of the immature hackers, may make it too hot to handle for the moderators. In deference to them, I think I have to say "thumbs down". Leaving it up to the moderators but also shooting it down from here.... Brien
it would seem ideal. but so does communism on paper. if it could be set up so that there was no name calling and bashing then it would be great, but otherwise might not be such a great idea.
just my two cents,
nick.
