And here I thought I was going to learn something new today.
Always wonders why most companies stopped at six cylinder but my new combine does have a seven cylinder sisu in it.
we have a extra extra long hood that has room for an 8 cyl. But it jist has a 6. Which the mechanics like. Lots of working room. The turn radius is a b tho.

with the introduction of emissions regulations in the US back in the late 80's, and the introduction or electronically controled engines, there was no real need for the V8 engines any more.
yes you could still get a mack E9 V8, or a cat or mercedes V8, but the electronic in line 6 made those V8's obsolete.
nothing will ever top the sound of a mack E9 9 "thumper" or a detroit silver 92 V8 though.
then there were the old school cummins 555 and 903 V8's. those engines reved like a gas engine!!
I drive a 1993 f150 4x4 supercab with a 105 hp 4bt. I love it and yes i am a truck driver also so i drive and shift at low rpms so no speed demon off the line but pulls fine. I have alot of diesel trucks including a freightliner with a series 60 detroit. I get 26mpg in a 5500 lb truck. Have seen 29. Came stock with 3.50 gears but switched to 3.31 to get better mpg. They can be built to high hp but mileage was my goal. My friend did the same swap with a p-pump intercooled but i could easily pull away from him off the line and up grades. He then changed fuel plate and turbo and he is as fast as me but only pulls 22 mpg. He is guessing the 7.3 intercooler is too big for the turbo. With your set up you could run the mazda trans until you beak it then switch to the zf witch i put in mine. It shifts very well. They were an option behind the 351 and are easily identified by the dual pto ports. It you get a 4bt from a repowerd ford step van it has the correct belhousing adapter and you will only need 6 cyl frame mount stands for a bolt in installation. I think you could get an sae belhousing from a 5.9 and install a 13 speed but would be foolish because of the magnitude and weight of the trans. Can get pics up later. Don't drive one unless you like showing it off because i can't even remember how many times i have popped the hood to show it.
