Explain catalytic converter
I understand it is an emissions device. But does it give better MPG?
I am having problems with it on my little Ford product called Topaz (with only 108K miles), but I heard that the big 460cid trucks are also vulnerable. I have relatively low miles on my F250 with a complete tune up so I don't think it runs rich - well, the usual 11 mpg which is normal for it.

If it is malfunctioning, or is clogged, it can reduce your performance as well as mileage. Yes, 11 is normal for a 460. Ours has gotten 10 its whole life.
