This is my first post. I have a 1966 F 100 6 cyl-240- standard trans. I am curious about wing window installation and removal. Is there a way to remove a wing window will the main channel still in the truck? Perhaps loosen the pivot pin bolt underneath and move the wing window a certain way? In addition, I had trouble creating an account and my user name is something I came up with in a hurry. Would someone know which prompt allows me to change the user name?
The pivot bolt goes through the wing window channel and then there is the top pivot. If the pivot bolt is broken off flush you might get it out without further disassembly, but the tricky part would be lowering it enough in the frame to clear the top pivot. And then putting it back together with a new pivot bolt sticking down would make it even tougher. I've always found I needed to at least rotate from the top the division bar that separates the main from the wing window to get at it all well enough. And pivoting the division bar requires dropping the window out of the track and removing the window anti-rattlers at the lower edge of the window opening. I can't see a way to do it otherwise. Others may have a trick up their sleeve and hopefully chime in if so.
I see that was your first post - welcome aboard. I have heard you just about can't change a username once chosen but never know. I think that's more a choice someone made than a technical issue with changing the name.
I see what you mean, I can envision what you said about the pivot bolt being larger when new, and mine is rotted. The wing window wants to come out, but even the little bit still in the wing window assembly is tight and the stud and angle at the top would not work and would damage things in the installation when everything is new.
So if I lower the main window out of the channels by taking the plastic wheel out of it's grove and lower down the main glass into the bottom of the door then get the screws out or lose at the Top of the door it is possible to get the wiggle room to finagle t out of door frame .
The more I look at this I am thinking I need the whole frame with the channel and pivot bolt. ii do have a better one. Also I see in the back of Dennis Carpenter parts catalog some step by step window channel rebuild photos. I would like to rebuild these window and channels someday. it does seem difficult, but doable I think I will put that off until spring or summer, and for now bang around on the body and try to get that nicer.
