You will soon hear from members who have done so. I think they have upholstery skills far beyond what I could ever learn.
But , really, why? ACC ,I think it is, make good molded carpets, sold by most of the likely suspects like LMC, etc., and they are very inexpensive. I doubt many could do the same quality, and would probably cost more to make. Unless doing a 100% correct restoration where the exact shade is needed, but even then, I’d pay a professional to get that quality.
Well I want to learn or at least try to do it, and the carpet roll is not very expensive so if it doesn’t work I’m not in that much of a loss, maybe $50
While I think the concept of vinyl flooring sounds good and may benefit drivers in their needs. I think of how the vinyl will look after mud covered boots, the rocks in the sole of your shoes deposit on the floor and all that gets rubbed into the floor between cleanings.
I prefer the carpet as a traditionalist...I like the feel and believe there must be some sound and insulation factors for the cab. I use the full size, one piece weather tech mats to fully cover my carpet. And since installing them, with minimal usage, they are dull and scratched up. I can replace the matts but would have a problem with this being my finished floor. Yes you can add carpet, you can change out the vinyl...but that can be a pretty big project removing seats, console etc. IMO
I guess you could add a matt to protect the vinyl, just sounds odd to me. I always think of vinyl as an XL model. Good luck on your decision

Ding, I think OP wants carpet, not vinyl flooring? Many came originally with carpet, not rubber flooring, so he may not be installing carpet over rubber.
I believe Rangers and some 1964 trucks with the XL package were the only ones with original carpet. All others used a rubber floor mat of one type of another.

Guess the original owner changed mine out at some point, then. I installed a new ACC(?) carpet, it is good quality and fit, and quite inexpensive. I would certainly have fouled up a few dollars worth of carpeting attempting to cut and fit my own, then still broke down and ordered it anyway. I recall that I somehow got free shipping, so for me was a no-brainer.
So I'm going to Hi-Jack this thread, since ya'll are talking about flooring.
I just replaced my three speed column shift for a T-18 four speed. As most of you knopw, the four speed takes the removeable high hump floor pan which in and of itselfd isn't an issue. I found one and got it installed nicely. The issue is, my truck, 65 F100 Custom Cab, came with a pretty decent original rubber floor mat that will no longer fit correctly. What do I do, modify it or just get a carpet kit? I like the rubber mat because I use the truck and I'm a dirty mechanic. Thoughts? opinions?

The regular vendors sell rubber flooring and vinyl flooring for the high-tunnel. Between $150 and $175 I learned that the "rubber" flooring is like the original and fits between the firewall and the seat. The vinyl flooring is the size of a carpet kit and extends up the firewall more and under the seat, back to the gas tank, . I ordered the vinyl for my truck via StockInteriors- very robust material, it will take a lot of abuse, grease, whatever. Unfortunately it did not fit my tunnel, which I now tend to believe is non-stock - My tunnel is smaller than the molded-in hump of the flooring kit. The material is pretty hard to manipulate - It's either gonna fit or not gonna fit. I changed to carpet which is produced on the same mold tool - I had to modify it considerably, but is was easier to heat-up and tweak, and the large cut I had to make was hidden pretty well by the carpet texture.
If you can wait for hot weather, and leave your truck in the sun, that will be a benefit to getting it installed well, no matter what you pick.
I always leaned toward carpet it seemed like what I found under vinyl was wet and rust , it just can't breath
That is exactly what I found under my floormat. I may take your advice and put carpet since my floormat won't fit anyways. On another note, anyone looking for a decent looking OE rubber mat? Fits 3 speed or COM trans.
