That doesn't sound unreasonable.

It is between $300-$400 for the shop I use to hot tank, pressure test and surface a set of 6 liter heads. This is a shop in Minneapolis

I bought these and had them checked and machined for O-rings. Mine were cracked so there was no saving them.

interesting, but I imagine it would be better to use the OEM heads if they’re in good condition?

how much did it cost you to O-ring ?

I paid 400.00 for the machining. Yes if the stock heads check out then use them. I was 5 heads out of 6 I purchased were cracked including my stock ones.

Well, I just had ALL new guides AND valve seats installed in my heads. That's 32 guides and seats. Valves were ground and reused along with the springs and keepers. Then they were surfaced and reassembled with Fel Pro valves stem seals I supplied from my top end gasket set. All for 1843.00 bucks. They were NOT ringed. B.

Having seats installed into heads escalates the price. Guides with regrinding the original seats back to concentricity aren't that bad. Installing seats and o-ringing the heads can vary in pricing depending on the shop, I wouldn't use a shop to machine for o-rings unless they have a good track record. $400 to 600 can get it done if everything is good to go, the stock seats and valves can be ground, and the springs are OK. My springs were at the high end of OE spec at 75k miles. The Ra might not be ideal.

i am assuming my stock heads are usable and the internal components are usable, Is it common that if the engine runs, it is safe to assume the existing heads are usable?

Just because it runs doesn't mean they aren't cracked. The cracks can be well hidden.
