I have come across two items and have made them different threads. I have on the table a T86 3spd with overdrive available to purchase. It came out of a 56 with a y block. I have a 66 with an FE and 3sped 3.03. Would this be a direct swap or are bolt patterns different? Are the tail shafts different lengths resulting in a driveshaft change
The earlier trans will have a longer input shaft. It will also have a larger bearing retainer collar were the throw out bearing rides and needs a different throw out bearing that won't work with the 66 bell housing clutch arm. I would forget it.
There is a later T-86 (T-85 is the car type, right?) that will fit. A friend has a complete setup that was attached to a 360, in what he thinks was the last model year it was available, maybe a '68. It is a rather complicated swap.
