I used to have a motorcycle with 2 headlights. A right and a left that were separated by an air intake. When using low beam, only one would light up. Click it over to high beam and get both lights. You would not believe how many people told me I had a headlight out!
They didn't say that because it was dim. They saw one of two headlights on and determined one must be burnt out.
I think the same sort of thing is true for the Super Duty. Folks see FOUR bright headlights burning and ASSUME you've got your high beams on. It's not that the light is in their eyes or anything. It's simply FOUR headlights.
The facts still remain: mine are not above factory cut off and a truck with OEM LEDs (his is a GMC) gets flashed - according to him - frequently.
It's just different when you are on backroads and there are no lights around and all of a sudden you've got a set of bright headlights heading in your direction.
I think you are correct to refer to your customers as dip****s because I use my park lights any time I roll into a situation where headlights aren't needed. Your service drive is a great example of this. People act like they can't be bothered to reach down there and turn off the headlights. Another example, waiting in the parking lot while my wife is in the store. Boom! Park lights! So many people sit at gas pumps, parking lots, and the like with their headlights just a blazin'.... dip****s! /soapbox
Love my XB Hybrids in my 2017, purchased through https://dudesdieselperformance.com/ . As a side benefit you no longer have both bulbs burning on low-beam and people thinking you forgot to turn down your high beams.
You only get both headlights on the non LED if no driving lights on. Or no driving lights. Unless you implement Forescan Bambi mode which allows both low beams, and driving lights, and lights high beams and keeps driving lights on. the problem with the halogen fixtures is the tail to the middle of each light above and below signal lights, this is an area of significant stray light. And it is totally differently designed than the LED fixture.
I have done the same green tape install of LEDs on my wifes RAV4 using the garage wall and while the main beam intensity is good, and there is a defined line for the beam, there is significant scatter around it. Which is what those oncoming drivers get.
There it is! I knew someone would chime in with that old chestnut.
I started the original Beamtech thread way back when. I've since moved on to the Hikari LED after reading some website reviews along with a nice writeup here from a forum member who tried 3 different brands.
It's been a good move so far. They seem to be dialed in better than the Beamtech. Adjustment is key to avoid oncoming drivers. Headlight Revolution has some good YouTube videos on headlight adjustment. Good information even if you didn't buy their bulbs ( I didn't).
Key for me was their advice to use road signs to gauge your adjustment. If you see a sign a fair distance down the road and you low beams are lighting it up, you should probably adjust them downward.
Also, if you can see a car a good distance ahead of you and you know that you're lighting up his interior or you can see him adjusting his interior rearview, you should probably readjust.
Tell yourself whatever you want as long as it helps you sleep at night. I'll keep flashing my 42" LED lightbar at idiots who throw LED's into stock halogen housings.
I was one of those idiots years ago with a 2006 Ram and HID's. When I bought my 2016 Ram, I was smart enough to upgrade to the OEM projector lenses before upgrading the bulbs.
Thanks everyone for all the responses. Definitely very useful. I have been leaning towards the Morimoto's, but they'll have to be rock solid before I pay that price. Maybe headlight prices will come down. Until then I'll probably do one of the LED bulb options y'all have mentioned, seems like a reasonable amount of money to spend on things. If they're too bright in the stock housing, I may have to try another kit. Or maybe I'll be ready at that point to venture out on the $1k+ LED headlight options. Until then, who's going to pay that much for headlights?? That's a lot of fishing money!
Post count is 100% irrelevant: I've been running dealership service departments for twenty years and I've seen so many of these dip****s roll through with their lighting modifications they think are the cat's ***, but there's no cat. Just straight ***.
Nowhere in my quote to another person were you mentioned, so my comment was not directed at you. So continue your argument someplace else.

Mike,
I’m having trouble understanding this. Our truck (non- OEM LED) generally burns all four headlamps for the DRL-, low beam-, and high beam functions. The only time I’ve seen it burn just two lamps (one each side) is temporarily at night (with other courtesy lights) after turning off the engine with the headlamp switch in the Auto position.
Perhaps a difference between US- and Canada-spec trucks?

Could you link me to the XB Hybrids product page? For some reason I think I keep getting the other ones only. Nice looking truck by the way!
EDIT: NM, think I found them: https://www.morimotohid.com/morimoto...hts?quantity=1. But glad to buy from the dieseldude if you link them! I like this option, I could swing $1k. North of that gets a little bit silly.

Use the contact info on the Dude's Diesel Performance page. Clayton usually doesn't take long to get back to you. I had nothing but positive experiences with the guy.
Here's a link directly to Morimoto. But you may get lucky if you shop around and find a lower price. I bought them for $900, only to have to return them because I bought a 2020 while awaiting arrival of the lights. The design had changed enough between 2019 and 2020 that Morimoto hadn't yet updated. They still might not be caught up yet.
I just bought my 2017 F350 Lariat, and I’d love to get the OE LED headlights like the Platinums have. Man, if I knew how spendy they were afterwards I might have gone for a Platinum! I was also underwhelmed by my 2012 F350 stock lights, but I’d like to know which of the options you all have found best for the price. Brightness on the road is #1, but also want the bitchin [ ] leds like the OEs. Which are the best for the $800+ price tags? OE or other makers.
Ask yourself this first......how much do you want to spend and go from there.
With that being said, “NO” aftermarket “LED bulb” will match the OEM LED assemblies or even the aftermarket assemblies from Morimoto.
Save up for or purchase the OEM LED assemblies or the Morimoto assemblies or try out various LED bulbs in your OEM halogen housings until you find something you like but in the end, you know what you really want and what you should do.

Dudes Diesel Performance can get whatever aftermarket parts you need even if he doesn't list it on his website, at very competitive pricing. Thank you for the complement! It's only an XLT without fogs but it's a great truck and have no desire to get another one.
Thank you guys so much for your support and great reviews! I have been slacking on adding some of the headlights on my site as we have been blessed with sales but if you message me i can get you set up and ill try and get the missing lights added today if i have time! We all know how awesome mondays are hahah
