What kind of small tool box do you guys have?

Interested in keeping a small tool box in the bed of the truck. Not a whole across the bed box, but something to toss straps, etc in. Any suggestions?

I keep it in the rear cab but I bought the Milwaukee Packout box, the large base and the next smaller one that attaches above it. My straps have their own $10 plastic tool boxes, ratchets get another one but everything else goes in the packout boxes. Northern Tool had some good deals on them last month. For what they cost I wouldn't leave it in the bed though. The Mid sized box would hold a lot of straps/ratchets. I put all my important power tools in it when I travel.

I use a plastic tub I picked up at Lowes. I carry some tools, some recovery stuff, and some spare parts in the tub. My tire changing tools are kept under the back seat with some jumper cables and a fire extinguisher.

Some years ago I bot a Stanley Bostitch water resistant tool box. This was after finding my previous tool box leaked, rusting some of my tools. It’s big enough to handle most needs. It has slam latches.

If you need security, I’d look at one of the small job site boxes like:

If you don’t, maybe consider a 50 cal ammo can.

I have a swing away tool box like the one in the link, only it's Ford branded. I suppose it's OK, but don't put anything heavier than a few straps in it. I had a 20 foot chain along with some straps and various hooks and the hinge just isn't designed for that weight. So the straps, some gloves, etc. remain but I removed the chain.

We have one of these as well, on the right side. Nothing in it that's heavy, but we carry straps, shop towels, etc in it. We really like it because it has little odds and ends you would normally keep behind your seat.

They're light duty as far as I'm concerned. The mechanism that latches the box into place was pretty cheap, with the plastic part breaking soon after installation. I riveted some thin aluminum plate on and ground out a spot for the retaining rod to slide into and it's holding good.

Does your box fit under the roll up tonneau cover?

I'm using a Pelican case for all of our stuff. If you are familiar with Pelican, you know they are great boxes. Add to that that they are made in America! Win-win!

This big rascal fits under the tonneau and it's what I keep all my towing accessories in: hitch, different hitch *****, locking receiver pin, diesel fuel additive, gooseneck ball, etc.

You can see ours in this video around the 2:24 mark:

If you're interested, I can get the model number for it.

I use the wheel well tool box. I can store some tie down straps, gloves, grease rags, my air hose, fittings, and a few hand tools. It's about 3/4 full with that stuff. It's not super big, but definitely fits my needs.

Those that have removable small boxes or containers how are you securing them in the bed?
