I stumbled upon a nice 1958 (I think) F100 in a falling apart shed. Oddly enough the date is "8" (1958, right?) however the data plate is in the glove box, which from what I've read '57 or '58 truck is supposed to have it attached to the rear face of the driver's door, that it's the '59 - '60 trucks that are supposed to have it in the glove box? Any idea what is going on here? Does it look like it's original to the glovebox, or has it blatantly been relocated there after the fact by some previous owner?
Anyway, on my own I've been able to research and find out that from the VIN its a 1958 (right?) F100 with the 223 inline 6, but I don't see a breakdown anywhere to tell me what the " 11 F A 01" below "DATE TRANS AXLE" means, or what "D.S.O." 5733 is.
Any help on these finer details would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for your time!
DSO = domestic special order. No way of determining what that was at this point. Someone ordered something on that truck that wasn't on the trucks sitting on the lot at that time.

Thank you! From that thread, I'm gathering it was built June 11th 1958, has a standard duty 3 on the tree, and a 3.70 ratio Ford 9" axle.
Any idea why a 1958 truck has the data plate in the glove box instead of the door?
Also any idea what color code "S" is? The truck is light yellow outside (probably faded), and teal(ish) inside. Very weird color combo, and there looks to be evidence of an old business logo so I'm assuming it was painted yellow by a company as a fleet vehicle? Pics below:
Thanks for the pics. you have a lot to work with. Cool to have the front emblem, they can be harder to find. According to this link "S", refers to special order color so that may well be what your DSO is all about.
The Yellow is definitely a repaint, I fount obvious tape-off lines on the rubber windshield gasket. I believe the interior is the factory color, and since the paint code is "S" indicating a special (not normal truck color option) it's likely a Mercury or Lincoln color from what I've read.
See below picture, you can see where they taped the windshield off. Looks like the truck was originally 1958 Lincoln "Jade" (Ford M0858 ). Appears to be a 1 year color for Lincoln? Or maybe Ford Indian Turquoise (although that's a 1959 color)???
Thanks for the feedback guys! Various websites say the '57s & '58s have the VIN plate on the door, but I'm thinking that maybe mid-year (from June onwards?) they started sticking them in the glove box? Just a theory.
I still don't 100% know what the interior color that is in the truck is, but so far FoMoCo M0858 1958 Lincoln "Jade" appears at least to my eyes to be it. If that turns out to be true, that would be amazing because it is a 1 year only color, and for Lincoln only, so if the original purchaser special ordered the truck with that color that'd just be super cool (and while not necessarily valuable) it would at least be a "rare" paint option truck.
If I'm able to snag this truck I'll sand the paint down in an inconspicuous spot and see if I can spot and confirm the original color underneath the yellow!
According to your data plate, Color = S. In the "1958 Ford Truck Parts and Accessories" Catalog under "Exterior Paint Body Color Codes" color code S = Special. Taking that into consideration along with the DSO code, your paint theory is entirely plausible. Of course, "Special" could also equal primer but that doesn't seem to be the case with your truck.
