I tried to start up my truck today and it just kept on cranking and wouldn't start. and by the time it was trying to start i was cranking the starter for more than I was wanting to and so let off the starter. I'm starting to think that it might be an air leak and is the reason why its having trouble starting. what could be all the possible areas be for a air leak in my fuel system. thanks in advance.
it shouldn't be my glow plugs are bad. right? I've tested all the glow plugs with a test light and they all lit up the test light. and my glow plug controller clicks and my wait to start light stays on for a while,
the thing is, when I was trying to start it, it wasn't blowing white smoke at all in the beginning and only was smoking a tiny bit after a bit of cranking.
Glow Plugs very seldom short to ground they Burn OPEN so the Test light Method is a Sound test on the individual plugs.
what are the chances that all the plugs short to ground ???
when you test them with the Test Light you note the brightness of the Lamp IF you have one that is quite a bit brighter than the rest then "Maybe" it is shorted to ground.
The Test light is the Approved FORD method of testing.
it's also easy to cycle the plugs then feel the plugs to see if they are warm on a cold engine (you could use a good laser pyrometer/Thermometer in place of finger)
a dead giveaway that the GP's are conducting is watching the Voltmeter drop.
IF you are sure that the Glow System is functioning properly then you may well have a fuel issue.
I'm fairly certain it isn't a glow plug issue. I've been having problems not starting easy before but sometimes even when its cold it just fires right up. kind of moody I guess you could say
