alrighty. my question is about egr. ive read about people blocking it off and whatnot. ive also hears that this makes the engine run "rich" or something. i was just wondering if there were any advantages to blocking off the egr. thanks for the help in advance.
I have had mine blocked off for two years without any problems other than I used too thin a material for the first plate and it burned a hole in it. Beer cans are no good at all. I have plate steel in there now . As for milage, I am getting 21.6 mpg after installing a K&N air filter, not bad for a 5.0 with 357,000km on it.
your just stoping the flow of exhaust from coming back. so if done correctly, there should be no drawbacks at all. It mixes with the air. it will just be replaced with more air at that point.
I had a 75 Dodge Monaco 440 ex-cop car. I made an EGR plate for it. The first two I made were of increasing thickness until I finally got a 1/2" steel plate. I drove it pretty hard so the first two warped. I actually used a beer can for the first. Lasted about 15 minutes. Then about a 1/4" thick plate, lasted maybe a week. The 1/2" one lasted until I sold the car. Just get the stock EGR gasket too with it.
