I have a 01 250 7.3 and I have recently received a rotomaster GTP38. Rotomaster calls it there “Performance” turbo it is a 66/88 mm. I am going to install this weekend so I can try it out and get some data with it. Has any one used Rotomaster turbos and if so what did you think about them?
That is what I am thinking it is but after my install and a few days of driving with it everything from empty truck babying it to giving it all it has I will have some data to post. I do believe rotomaster has a good reputation of a quality product
Rotomaster has always been the value option but they have a decent reliability. Hopefully you received the unit that was made in the US, easy to spot as it has a raised "R" in the compressor housing near the outlet and the metal tag. The bulk of their offerings are now coming from China and look like the Ebay turbos. You can thank the Cardone acquisition for that.
It seems to be a billet WW version with a 3" inlet and so far so good.
I'm told rotomaster rebuilds a lot of the 18 wheeler turbos...
Yes rebuilding is what got Rotomaster established, back when Holset and BW were holding the heavy market hostage they came in with rebuilds for half the cost.
Yes I have the one made in the U.S I’m not expecting any big gains from it. Once I get the data from using it maybe it could help other people out with a tighter budget on a turbo for there truck. I got the turbo for free so I am not out anything other then time.
First tow with my new RM turbo...went very well. Lowest EGTs I've had in a while and more boost and less noise than my last 2 that I've run. Maybe the last 2 weren't right to begin with...
Anyway, I'll wait until hot summer days towing with a full load before I'm completely satisfied, but so far so good.
