57 Hood Braces
How or what do I do to reattach the brace to the hood? It appears to have a 3/4" gap. My singular brace runs side to side across the back of the hood underside.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?
Is the back brace anything at all like the back brace in my '59? Is it spot welded to the pinch weld at the back and sides. Does it look like the 3/4" gap at the front is caused by the brace bending down at the front? Does it look like it could be bent back into place?
To keep it that way, I can think of a couple of options.
Glue the brace to the skin using modern panel adhesive (like something by SEM). But I would be afraid that that may pull the skin down when the brace bends, leaving visible ripples.
Adapt a set of front-to-back braces off the later hoods like my 59.
Fab another stiffener applied to the front edge of your existing back brace to keep it from bending. I've even seen rebar rigged for this purpose on junkyard trucks. You could create something prettier that most people would not even notice as 'non-stock'.
Anybody else?
Adios,
Brett
