I need to remove the shifter **** from my NP 435 Transmission stick in an 86'F-150. It looks like somebody has glued it on. I don't know if it is supposed to unscrew, or if it has splines like my transfer case **** and just slips on. Could somebody please tell me if it slips on or unscrews. I need to remove them and the shifter boots so I can cut the holes for carpet.
It is kind of glued on.
I think it was heated and slipped on and when it cooled it is "glued ".
Someone had mine off. Messing it up. And glued it on.
The **** is hard to come by as I have not seen them on Ebay. If I can find a screw on **** like my T18 has with the right shift pattern I will thread the stick and screw on the **** and not have to deal with that press on ****.

Thank you Dave. I will probably just buy some custom shift ***** then. They come with the screws to hold them tight on the stick. My TC **** keeps slipping off anyway, kind of annoying when I'm trying to get some trail time. I don't know how I will remove the ****, but if I am able to get it off in one piece, I could mail it to you. Which Transmission do you have?
Forgot to say. Dodges have screw on *****, I'd look to them.
Thanks for the offer but I am going to go with a screw in type. If the **** on my T18 was in better shape I would use it.
The trans is a NP435 with the glue on ****.
Try a heat gun to heat the **** and see if I t will pull off.
Good luck and keep us posted on what you end up doing.
Dave ----
Okay job done. If any of you purists were hoping to find or save your original shifter ****, I would forget about it. You could possibly try a heat gun to remove it but I don't think it would work. It was made up of 3 pieces, and glued on with stubborn green cement. I made a lengthwise relieve cut with a hack saw, then broke it off with a screw driver. I bought a leather shift **** with red stitching to compliment my beautiful bucket seats out of a 2001 Hyundai Tiburon. Trust me, the seats are very nice. I will get updated pics of my interior after it's done, but it's looking sweet.
