Looking for a newer low mileage steering box from a part out truck to replace my sloppy 01 box, which years interchange? I've searched all over, can't seem to find anything.
Yeah, yeah, I know, red head steering box... but I think I can find one from a part out for cheaper than a red head, don't you?
To answer your question though, they come in 32 and 36 spline varieties. Count your splines in your current box to ensure a match to your pitman arm. You risk not solving your slop with a used box, especially one from a wrecked part out. Blue top is also reputable. If the truck is not your daily and you can afford the down time, consider sending your current box to West Texas Off Road to have it rebuilt. Or you can buy a new one form them as well. Great company.

I think it's '99-'04 for interchange. But as you know, the newest from a part out is 18 years old. When I did the coil spring swap on my 01 I installed a 2015 steering gear.
Having too little positive caster can create a dead "do nothing" zone between left and right at highway speeds.
Less then +5 degrees caster is too little for highway speeds.
Solid advice, I thank you all for it.
Perhaps it is for the best to invest in a red head box or something of the like, especially since this truck is probably going to see a lot of highway towing.
Currently it's a struggle to keep it on the highway unloaded hahaha... I'd hate to think of the white knuckle ride it would be with 8k hooked up.
