Does the computer need to be reset when installing new batteries?
Does the computer need resetting when replacing old batteries with new batteries? I’m seeing info now that says some vehicles need to have the computer reset and it needs to know the batteries are new because new batteries have different charging parameters than older batteries. Also, if switching from a flooded to AGM the computer needs to know because AGM’s have different charging requirements. Is this the case on a 2018 F-350 diesel?
Thanks
Bill

interesting. deep cell batteries have different charging requirements
I replace one battery at a time. Radio doesn't even lose presets that way.
Exactly what I did. However, the mechanic in the video was saying that “SOME” vehicles/brands needed to have the computer reset to know there were fresh batteries in the vehicle. He didn’t elaborate on which brands did or did not.
There's sometimes some kind of jiggery-pokery involved - setting the park brake, running the A/C for a few minutes, moving gear selector through every detent. Whatever it is, if the manual mentions something like this, be sure to follow it, it is important.
If otoh it says "See Your Dealer", that's probably a Bad Sign.
There is no computer reset needed when changing batteries on our trucks. As far as charging profile, there is an AGM setting that shows up in Forscan as an option. I don't know if it works as no one I know has tried it yet. I'm running Odyssey AGMs now on the factory setting and am curious about the change but not enough to have me experiment with it... yet...
For the 2018 SD the Battery Management System (BMS) is "if equipped." I don't know if that is only single battery gasoline models or if it includes the 6.7L. Page 355 discusses eight hours of sleep (doors locked, don't touch) after battery replacement. It would be helpful if Ford explained how to determine if owners have a BMS vehicle or not.

Wonder how they do that. Thousands of trucks never sit 8 hours not touched including mine.

Just have to get home at 8 PM and not leave until about 4:30 AM I guess! My 2017 Fusion has the BMS. The manual discusses taking it to the dealer or use the eight hours option. I'll just fix it with FORscan when I have to replace the battery.

This is how drug dealers figured out the trap door.
