I have a 99 f250 that is needing alot of work, my first goal is to get it running and driving, the truck has been sitting for about 2 years, the motor will start on starting fluid but dies if I don't keep spraying it, I can hear the fuel pump run so am I not getting enough voltage to the pump or is it my fuel filter
Two things. There is what looks like a tire valve on the fuel rail. See if you have fuel pressure there - preferably with a gauge. Without the engine running, cycle the key a few times, and the fuel pressure should be 38-40 PSI or so.
If you have fuel pressure, and still no start, the fuel injectors all have a common +12V circuit. I forget the wire color (most likely red with a stripe), but with the key on, you should get +12V on one of the fuel injector wires. If you don't, I bet something chewed the wires, or there's a blown fuse.
It was the fuel pump, I could hear it so I thought it working but I tested it further and it was not pumping so I went and bought a new fuel pump from my local napa and it started right up
