1977 Ford F-150, (4x4) with 400 cuin and NP 435 Transmission.
Preparing to remove NP 435 transmission to change input shaft seal along with the clutch, throw out and pilot bearing. After reading up on the procedure, it mentioned to obtain two bolts (cut the heads off and grind a slot in the end of them) to use them as guides when re-mounting the transmission.
Anyone know the transmission bolt size, (length and thread pitch)?
I think they're 7/16 also. if not they're 1/2. try a 3/4 wrench on them and if it's too big it's 7/16. coarse thread for sure.
Should be a pilot bushing. be careful with that, be sure you don't deform it any when you install the new one or you'll fight getting your transmission in for 2 days. and good luck finding a good quality one, most have too much steel in them these days. the old rule is if a magnet sticks don't use it. most stick. I've gotten to where if it still looks good I leave it alone.
Sometimes you can convert to a bearing. not sure in this application but that has it's problems too.
