I am scour through a lot of the posts in the group as well as in the text folder but I’m not totally understanding what I need to do. My truck when I bought it years came with one key. If I ever wanna program my own keys I’ve been getting contradictory information on whether I need one or two keys to do this. So I was just wondering if I need to go to the Ford dealer and order a slave key in master key or not.
I was in the same spot and only had the one key. Couldn't find anything and just went to the dealer. Dealer has to program it, and what i found was that if it's not a key straight from Ford they wont guarantee it'll take.
The information I found was you needed 2 programmed keys to program additional keys yourself. My dealer will program as many keys as I want for a flat fee. I just need to get off my butt and get to the dealership. Keys from the dealer are $50 a pop though. So only getting 2 made. I will use my current one as the back up.

I agree the cost of dealer keys is a little ridiculous. I was thinking I get 3 made. And then that way I put 2 in the safe so that I have it in case of an emergency. For programming new keys. My current transponder key is for original original I believe. But it is acting funny for some reason. I’m thinking after 21 years it must be failing.
