Question 2010 5.4 Catch Can

Has anyone installed a catch can on their 3v 5.4? I've been watching videos on them recently and was wondering how they may perform in colder climates such as Alberta? I'm planning on having this truck for a long time and would love to do anything that might benefit it. I tow a 5th wheel camper with a boat/sxs behind that in the summer months, would that also call for need of a catch can? truck is up to 118,000 km now

I just happened to come across a video on youtube of a guy installing one on his 5.4. I was just wondering if it would be worth it for the longevity of the engine or if it would be a waste of time and money

I think with the heated element in the pcv for the 5.4 it is not necessary.

my 2006 saw 220k miles (350k km) and the egr always worked as expected. I checked it for flow several times and there was never any indication that it didn’t work as designed

my use was similar to yours and IMO, a catch can on this motor is a soliton in search of a problem.

That's all I needed to read! Thanks! I think the only reason I would put one on now is if the intake is full of oil when I clean the throttle body plate next oil change or if its gross whenever I decide to clean it next.

I would be very careful of using one if you drive in freezing temperatures. Ask any one of those catch can suppliers if they would guarantee against a frozen PVC system if used. I would only trust one with a heated system and they are very expensive.

If the PCV valve uses heated coolant to keep it from freezing then don't remove it. It was put there to satisfy the four seasons.

yikes, after reading that I won't even consider a catch can on this truck, if it was direct injected it would be a different story but to hell with that noise having to deal with frozen catch cans right now
