Does anyone know what and how much work it is to convert from a V6(2.9) 5 speed to a 5.0 5 speed. Appreciate any kind of help, Thanks. Sorry I forgot to mention it is a 1987 Ext. cab. Thanks again

Swapping a 302 or a 351w into a ranger is not really any harder than changing engines in any other car. I helped a friend of mine put a 302 in his Bronco II. If you want a 5 speed you can use the current ranger tranny but you will have to order a special bell housing, if I were you I would go with the T-5 tranny out of a mustang it is a little tougher when it comes to extra torque. Also you will have to get a oil filter relocation kit because on the 302 the oil filter is locates right in the steering sector of the ranger. you can design an exhaust system to your liking. a regular clutch fan will not fit so you will need an electric fan but those are easy to come by a 17 inch fan will work. The other thing is if you are going to install a carb v8 or a efi v8, since your ranger is efi I would get the fuel injected v8 because your current fuel system will work with it, unless you build your v8 to produce more than 250 horepower. Any way have fun with your project
Thanks James I'll look into that. I see you have a 66 Stang as well, that's great I've just started restoration on a 65 Fastback. Thanks to everyone and keep the replies coming if you think they will help.
