Hello all, we just recently lost my dad and he had a what I and he believe to be a 54 Ford f100. The hood and grille are not original to the truck so don’t base anything off that. But my real question is what you guys would value this truck at. It has also what we believe to be a 351 Windsor the driveline is still all hooked up body is extremely solid, I just do not have the time to work on it. I have my own car and he had another truck that will take my attention. Will attach photos just trying to get a rough value looking to sell to a family member thank you.
Sorry for your loss. It looks like a good project, but it is exactly that, a project. I see bondo chipping off of rust on the fenders, and who knows what else one will find when they strip it down. Surely that's just the beginning. It's not running or driving. If I was the family member, I'd offer $4000, but that would be my top dollar. It's going to need a sizeable investment to bring it back to glory, as I'm sure you're well aware. That's my 2c.

thanks for your input, I know it’s a project for sure, just wanting to see what people think a current value is I was with him when he bought it probably 15 or so years ago so I know values change. The truck is solid though would be a great place to start only things missing body wise are front bumper and hood hinges and maybe badges from what I can tell. If anyone has a way I can for sure pin down the year and maybe help decoding the engine I’d appreciate the help as well. There’s no stickers on the body that I can see for any kind of identification
Sorry for your loss as well........ I'm thinking I agree with 52 merc....$4000..... would be my top as well.... it looks like it's been inside so cab rust may be minimal...... where are you located?.....
Do you not have a title or registration? There should be a tag in the glove box, and the frame should be stamped with the serial number on the passenger side frame rail under the hood. The engine appears to be the 351W as you believed. The intake looks wider and the distributor is shrouded by the intake. The early valve covers and generator certainly throws off the look.
The truck is a slant cab so the year could be anything from 53 to 55. That said, the grille is a 53 with the added teeth and there are no holes in the valance for the "fangs" that are part of the 54 grille. I would say that the truck is more likely a 53, however, in my experience the actual year model has little to do with value. Sentiment can throw a wrench in the gears when attempting to estimate value...I have seen quite a few vehicles sitting in yards rotting away because the owners could not get the price they wanted because prospective buyers did not have the same emotional ties to the vehicle as the seller. It seems like you are doing your best to keep from that pitfall.however. I agree with the previous posts on the value being in the $4K range. The tipping point for me is where the value of the truck shifts from that of a whole truck to that of a collection of truck parts. Sorry about your dad, hope this process doesn't add to the grief. Good luck.
I don’t mean to rain on the parade, but I don’t see $4,000 for that truck. I’m in Ohio and I sell trucks and parts. That is a $2000-$2500 tops. And that’s if it had a title. No title even less. If you hold out long enough you might get more but could be a while....,
so sorry for your loss of your dad
Hello, and condolences to the passing of your Dad.
It is never easy placing a value on such things as a close relative's truck. There is eventually a mix of sentimental value and local market value, and somewhere is a price that will be best for all sides.
Without any details other than what your noted so far, I tend to agree with Bigwin56100 that 4,000 is rather high, especially to a family member. Like others have said, it is in the project category and probably has some missing parts and some key parts that need replacement. The drive train may be there but it may need to be disassembled to check it's condition before anyone tries to fire it up.
I also noticed what 52Merc saw, it has what appears to be a chunk of bondo showing which indicated some historical rust that was fixed the easy and inexpensive way. That type of repair is very common and to be expected but you either leave it as-is and drive it and let more body filler pieces fall off - or you strip it down and begin the $8,000 to $15,000+ in body repairs.
It does seem like a good starting point project - better than some I've seen since this at least has been stored under cover. But unless I knew more about the condition of the engine, transmission, brakes and how many necessary parts are missing - I would be hard pressed to spend more than $2,500 or at most $3,000 for a nearly complete project truck (with a title) that didn't come from the south west or salt-free parts of the country. Seeing the carb removed but not covered and the belt missing sort of suggests the engine may not spin freely if it has been sitting for awhile. When a truck like this has been sitting for a long time, even indoors, a lot of things usually have to be replaced and the cash register rings non-stop until you get ahead of it all.
I hope you can find a good home for it - with someone who has the time patience, secure storage and money to take it to the next step. It sure would be nice to keep it in the family.
Tom
Thank you all for your input, I'm not stranger to the costs associate with project vehicles. As stated I have my own classic car and my Dad has another truck a 51 f100 that we both worked on. That being said I appreciate all points of views. I was just trying to get a ball park range of what this specific truck would bring in. I know what he has in it and most of the back story to it. It came from South Carolina and was an air force base truck at some point if i remember correctly, which I'm assuming why it has a 351 Windsor in it. From what I can tell the truck is complete minus, hood hinges, headlight bezels, front bumper and some misc engine parts suck as carb and fan. Most everything else seems to be there. I turned the motor over by hand yesterday but Id assume it would need a rebuild at least a tear down. The truck is in amazing shape I wish I had the time and funds to keep it but I would be hard pressed to be able to maintain and restore a third classic. The family member I mentioned in original post has decided to pass on the opportunity to buy the truck at the moment thus I think were going to do just that; that being said If anyone has any interest or knows of anyone who may be interested PM me truck is located in OH and like stated I do know most everything that my dad would know about the truck, we drove down to get it together many years ago, if anyone would have more questions or want more photos. Thank you all
