I just ordered new vent window seals and anti-rattlers for both doors from DC.... any guidance to fight these jokers?? I've done them in several VW types but never a dent. I remember not enjoying the process of installing them!!!
The best thing is to loosen the regulator and drop the window out of the way. I had RTRW ones which I believe they supply DC. getting them in fighting the glass is a real chore. and you have to tweak the rear tab on the outside sweep too.
Ok, so with vent window removed and door glass dropped down or removed NOW is the time to check the connection between the inner door metal and outer door metal that is located between where the vent window goes and where the door glass goes. This is ONE spot weld to hold the inner and outer door skins together(I am saying skins as opposed to panels because why? I dont know). If the tabs spotweld has failed then the skins WILL spread and your new vent window seal will not seal against it's base to the outer door skin thus leaving a gap. If you can weld and have a welder then youre good to go, if not then you can pre-drill a hole through both tab parts and put a screw or bolt through to hold in place. When you have the glass out of the way you will see what I am talking about. It's ALWAYS the little things that get us if not paid attention to. I've had to fix a few doors like this before going to paint, and even if that spotweld is good now it may not be later so I've started adding a screw through the tabs just as added insurance down the line.
I used the video posted above and it went in smoothly. I do remember finding it easiest and quickest to disconnect the glass from the regulator and everything then slid right it. Took me about 45 minutes on the first side, about 10 on the other.
I will say I also followed that video, and everything went smoothly, first side was about 45 minutes to follow video step by step, and then the other side was about 20 when I knew what to do.
