2006 F150 5.4 3 V engine code W ??

Please help bring me up to stream regarding the importance of the 5 th digit in the serial #
I have a 2006 F150 sitting broken down in Kingman Arizona. Vin is 1FTPW14556FB56775.
I am looking for a good used engine.
I have been warned that I need to find a 5.4 3 V engine with matching 5th digit in order for it to be a easy switch.
Apparently not all 5.4 3 v will bolt right in ( ie: tranny doesn't match )
I found somebody that can do the swap in March but I have to find a engine before that.
I can't find somebody to sell me a used good running engine and install it in the Kingman area.
I have considered just selling the truck and let someone else do the swap since I'm 1600 miles away.

I dunno - I'm confused. Position 5 (thru 7) just tells you if it's an F150, body style (ie RC, EC, CC) and 4wd or no.

Position 8 is your engine type. A 5 is 5.4 3V, so that jives with your VIN

A "W" for an engine is a 2V 4.6

Oh and on a 3V there's likely no such thing as a good USED engine. If I were installing a 3V for a client I would ONLY do a fresh rebuild from a reputable rebuilder (likely Fraser)

Way, way too many potential headaches on a used 3V engine, and mileage is irrelevant as some start making various noises from the timing set at 60k -- plenty of examples of such on this very forum.

What he says right there!

There is no way you want to chance a used engine that likely is on borrowed time no matter how well it was taken care of. Too much disposable plastic that short OCIs and 5w-20 oil won’t help you with.

Just sell what what you have if you don’t plan to go full rebuild or remanned engine.

Thanks guys for the clarification. so it is the 8th digit in the serial number that is the 5.4 3 V engine.
Okay i will take your advice and sell the truck. It is a nice truck lots of miles left in it.
I was originally thinking a truck that was in a accident could possibly have a good engine especially a low mile wreck.
But the risk of buying a disaster waiting to happen with the history I read on the 5.4.
Unless someone appears with a documented used engine, I guess I will unload it.
Thanks
