more power

I have a 1991 ranger xlt with a 3.0 V6 5 speed and i was wondering if there is anything i can do easily to gain more power and speed because my friend wants to race me in his 3.8 Impala

Jesse, you could jump over into the 3.0 V-6 room or the ranger room and see if any of those guys have some ideas. But I fear that with more engine and less weight than your truck- your buddy's car is going to be faster unless you spend some serious cash on the truck. DF

351M with 4V valves in the 2V heads.

There's no replacement for displacement. Thats .

My engine runs pretty well and didnt get blown out in a quarter mile against him because I can shift well, but i know whatever i do , he will still beat me. i am just looking for some cheap ways to improve horsepower. any ways??

Exhaust, intake, chips, and maybe even hotter ignition modules. Check in the 3.0 or ranger forums, thats where the experts hang out.

What's the highest octane rated gas available near you? Sunoco 94? Try racing him with only a quarter tank(to save weight). Octane boost in a bottle works pretty good on top of that.
