I am in the process of fixing some wiring issues on my truck. It's a 1965 custom cab on a high boy chassis.
The gauges do not work, the headlights are funky (when lights off, right blinker works, when on only left works). My plan is to go through the entire truck front to back. I will be using this diagram to conduct the inspection. My question is: What is the device circled in red? (located in the lower right hand portion) Additionally, I see my constant voltage unit (located on top portion of cluster positioned behind speedo) has 3+1 pegs. From the wiring diagram, It looks like it is suppose to be a ground, and 1 input and 2 output. Can anyone confirm this or shed some light on this particular unit?
Would make sense as there is just a simple toggle switch controlling the entirety of the lights -- lol. Wiring is only a pain when someone else has put their stroke of genius on it
I went ahead and ordered a hardcopy of the book. My career is in the tech field but when it comes to diagrams, and books, I prefer hard copies.
I am still wondering why my constant voltage unit has 4 pegs. I got into the wiring a bit yesterday and measured all four posts and each one was getting 15V. Any way to test these?
Your ICVR is probably from a different model vehicle. These are King Seeley type gauges. Ford used that system for many years in almost all their vehicles. The test procedures are outlined in the shop manuals. Here are a couple of pages from the 71 car manual. These gauges all work the same way only the faces were different to depict what they were measuring. You can get new ICVR"s at any parts house or E-bay. Either the original electro mechanical or solid state. Your truck will not have the radio choke or 8.5 ohm resistor in the system that came later with the printed circuit instrument panels.
