Blinker wiring problem....

Hey guys happy new year! I haven't been on in awhile or even attempted to work on the truck in a few months.so close to finishing it.hope to wrap it up by spring.

My problem is the blinkers. When I turn the signals on, the front blinkers work as they should. But when I go to wire up the rears you can here the flasher tick real fast then just the rears work and not the front. I've checked the wiring, replaced the flasher 4 times and now threw the 3 turn signal. I can't seem to find the problem.

-aftermarket wire harness and turn signal

Does it make a difference if the parking lights are on? Have you double/triple checked the ground at each light?

Just checked with the running lights on and same thing happens. Even when I use my test light on rear wire it will make the front stop working and just the rear work.

My first guess is the front lights ground. Do the front parking lights work okay?

What year of truck? You mentioned the aftermarket wiring harness, but are you still using the stock steering column and turn signal switch? Trying to break this down a little more. Do the brake lights work OK? Otherwise I agree with checking over your grounds.

54,everything aftermarket. brake lights work. Will check grounds more in the morning. Do the taillights ground through the mounting post?

Yes, they are supposed to. But rust and paint may prohibit that. I run a separate ground wire from the lights to the frame.

Do you have one lamp for tail, brake, and turn? What kind or type TS switch are you using?

Abe is correct, they should ground thru the mounting arms, but on mine I added a ground wire to the frame from both of mine because I was seeing a voltage drop. Another simple thing to check... are your bulbs installed correctly? With those locating pins on the bases you are not supposed to be able to install them wrong, but I found out you can especially if the socket is worn.

Seems like you have a ground and hot crossed somewhere. Take it apart and check one thing at a time.

Yep. I had a similar problem after I rewired my 51 F1. Found a ground and hot wire reversed on my right rear turn signal. Corrected that and problem solved.

So I removed all the wires going to the tailights. Used test light and put it into the connector for rear turn signal.flipped the turn signal on and they now both work but are pretty dim.when I remove the test light the front one gets brighter.

So I technically have front/rear turn signals working but there dim when both are on the circuit.

Iam using what seems to be the only universal turn signal switch I could find..

Why are you using an aftermarket add on switch instead of the one in your column?

Why the after market turn signal?
Dim lights are normally a grounding issue

it seems that the turn signal switch in the column is broke. Can't get it to work.so just went with an after market one.

I don't know how hold the column is but they should have parts to fix.
