87 F150 Transmission Swap

So just a quick question, I've got an 87 F150, with the 300-6 and a C6, 4x4. If I pull a 4wd AOD or E4OD out of something, is it a direct bolt in, and I can hang my existing transfer case off the back? Or am I going to need the transfer case out of the donor as well? (I understand that the transmission needs to come off of another 300-6 or small block for the bellhousing to match.) And in the case of an E4OD, what additional electronics would I need to grab?

E4OD is going to be tough. You'd need all the electronics, computer, and wiring out of a later truck that had an E4OD. That's going to be a big project to get that all integrated into your '87 which never had a factory option for an electronic trans. The E4OD is also longer, so you need different length driveshafts. The t-case will bolt in place, but the shift linkage may need to be adjusted to match the hole in the floor due to the different trans length.

I've never messed with AODs, so I'll let others comment on that option.

Ok, good to know. I've had rigs with factory AOD's before, so it's not an option I'm discounting, it's plenty stout for my purposes with this particular rig. I'm not ruling out an E4OD, as the truck is probably getting an aftermarket ECU at some point in the future anyway.
