snorkel

hey guys i was just wondering if i pulled off the square shield from my snorkel behind the grill would make my motor breath better or not.it has two holes for the cold air to come through into the snorkel for the air box. is this a bad idea or just leave it. i just thought if more forced air comes in the better thanks

AG4.0 what did you do to get better cold ram air?? what i did was took that cover off and put a screen on and i did felt a little improvement by a monkey hair in third gear and i was thinking of making a tube that would gulp more air through my grill. in the old days we done that with our 70s cars and it worked ..but now we have fuel injected and for what i read about it realy works on the mustangs that i looked up on the web. i read some more on it and said better gas milage on the hwy too. im just going to have a little fun with it and find out

What I have done so far is The KKM Intake which just replaces the airbox, and draws air from the engine compartment. I then cut apart my intake tube and rerouted it to closer to the front of the hood. I bought some fiberglass pipe insulation and wrapped my intake tube and then used metal repair tape to cover that to limit radiant heat transfer. Then out of some cardboard I made me a heat shield that I double wrapped with the metal tape. I poked a few more holes behind the grill to draw in more air from the freont as well. The heat shield needs a bit more work to it to make it conform to the hood, but I have noticed better mileage lately. I would say that on the Highway, not interstate, I am getting close to 24. Of coarse the exhaust helped the most of what I have noticed but the cold air set has hellped. I think it would be retty easy though to do what you had in mind and run a tube through the grill to get more of a RAM air setup. The piece behind the grill is fiberglass and can be cut rather easily to allow more air in.
Also, if your still running your stock airbox, I have read that by insulating it similar to what I did with just my tube, you can increase performance and mileage. Supposedly about 1% HP increase for every 10 degrees cooler you can make the incoming air
