I've got a 98 Ranger 4x4, 4.0 manual, about 115,000 Km. My in town fuel efficiency has dropped by about 60-70 km per tank.
In the last year the following has been performed. New plugs, New IAC valve, throttle body service, cleaned MAF. The engine otherwise, starts, idles and runs well.
Any suggestions ? Do the 02 sensors significantly affect fuel consumption ?

Thanks.
Most certainly it does. The O2 sensor closest to the engine feeds data to the electronic engine control (aka powertrain control) module. A failing sensor causes the engine to constantly run rich, thus the poor mileage. The aft sensors just provide confirmation the catalysts are doing their job properly.
