Radiator cap psi

I have a 2015 tuned and deleted egr with 4” turbo back, SCT X4 with the canned tunes running street. Talking to a friend with the same type he said he runs a 21psi radiator cap instead of the factory 16psi, said it lowers the temperature, anyone know about this?

Thank

The higher the pressure the hotter the water in the cooling system can achieve without boiling. As to whether it helps the truck runs cooler, no clue. But, when you lower the operating temperature, you also affect the emissions. As with any manufacturer, Ford, Dodge, etc, they design the cooling system/engine temperature to maintain a certain temp range to properly burn the fuel. If you lower the temperature, you might not be burning the fuel efficiently and emitting more CO2's/NOX. This could affect your fuel mileage. Since you are deleted, you are not worried about emissions nor fuel mileage,

With your deleted truck, you might want to see if you can contact your tune writer and get their opinion.

The cap does nothing to lower temperature it increases the temperature at which water boils. January 2016+ all trucks came with a 21psi cap, Ford still recommends the 16psi cap for all previous models.

Remember that these radiators have plastic caps. I am not a fan of them but that's what we got. I wouldn't mess with the rad cap. I wouldn't change the thermostat ether. The computer is supposed to monitor engine temp and if it doesn't see enough temp it will mess with the fuel system. Trucks are designed to get so hot and that's where the sweet spot is for optimum engine performance
