I have a '95 F150 Supercab 4x4 5.8 auto. I am at 100,000 miles. I have religeously taken care to change fluids, filters, etc. The truck has always run very well and I have no complaints about its performance. How many miles can I expect to get out of this 5.8 engine before any major repairs or work is necessary? I do some towing (3 times a year) and it does get used in 4x4, although not violently. I am considering trading the truck off for a new F250 CC 4x4, but if the numbers are in my favor, I may not. Thank you for any help.
Dan
I have 236,000 on my 90 F-250 and tow my race car long distances frequently and am just now thinking of a rebuild. Just a note my uncle has a 2000 super duty powerstroke and he tows his race car and get 18 mpg let alone leaves me in the dust on long grades and take offs
I had a 1990 model with a 5.8 and I had 175000 miles on it when I sold it. I talked to the new owner a couple weeks back and he said it has 230000 miles on it now and is still going strong.
My 5.8L in my 1990 F-150 lasted 180K miles before a rebuild. It would have lasted much longer, but I was a stupid kid when I got it and didn't take good care of it at first. However, the rebuild was the first significant work I had done to it. As I recall, up to that point I had only to install a new water pump.
I drove it hard and towed a 17 ft. bass boat with it. It still tows the same boat, but has 55K on the rebuild now.
