The "Express" pickups.

Why are they called Express trucks? Thanks. Are my eyes deceiving me or are the 9ft bed sides taller at the rear end than the front?

They are the same height front to rear. The front panel and tail gate are slightly shorter. Does that make sense? As far as why they are called that? That's just what Ford called them? Merry Christmas!

I can only assume it was so drag trucks would be able to paint it on the side, 50 years later

Thanks, but looking at your truck it looks like the height of the side panel is taller at the rear by about 1 1/2" to 2". Stick a tape measure on it.

My express bed is 8ft, not 9ft. Are you referring to only the later 9 ft beds?

On the 48-52s, the only reason the rear end might look taller would be due to a rake from the rear suspension.

The bed sides themselves are equal in height along their entire length.

Thanks for this. I swear they look tapered! lol. Okay then. I guess the Express name is for the use of the vehicle, IE carrying loads that need to get there in a hurry. So, they ate built stringer and more durable to minimize failures.

More of a commercial theme for heavier and longer loads required for industry.
