Weird A/C problem on 97 Expy
I've got a weird problem with my 97 Expedition. After about a half-dozen trips back-n-forth from a local shop trying to get my air conditioner fixed, they finally ran it up to the Ford dealer to see if they could figure it out.
The air conditioner works great as long as I'm idle. When I take off and start driving, the compressor kicks off and it stops cooling.
The dealer thinks there's a short in the compressor and is trying to research the problem.
Has anyone here heard of a problem like this? Is there a simple fix?
Things have changed a bit since Friday. I believe I mentioned that the local shop had run the truck over to the Ford dealer and they're the ones that said it looked like a short. Anyway, I got the truck back Friday night so that I could move some stuff out of storage. We agreed to bring it back on Monday.
When I picked it up, I turned on the air just to see and it worked great! It's been working great since! I'm completely confused. All I can think is that maybe the local shop had knocked an electrical connection just loose enough that it would quit working once it warmed up. Then when the dealer looked at it, they tightened it?!
Only time will tell. Thanks for the time!
