Question compressor or clutch?

When I'm just idling, the A/C doesn't cool. Once I am on the freeway or at least driving, it cools. I'm also hearing a rattling sound when the A/C is on. So my question is...is the whole compressor going bad or just the clutch? How can I tell? Thanks

I couldn't tell you for sure. A/C systems are onew of those areas I don't mess around with. I would assume so because it does work once I get up to speed, but lags right when I start the truck or if i've been just idling for a little while. How can I check if it's fully charged?

You will need to put a set of gauges on it to make sure. I would start there before you start looking at the rest of the system. Poor cooling at idle can be a system a few ounces low.
