Flathead v8 belt tightness

Dad and I checked our belts tonight. We have about 1” deflection on the water pump/generator belt. Is that too loose? Manual says 1/2” but wanted to check thoughts.

I've lost 2 bearings on long-distance road trips because they were a little too tight. One waterpump and one on the generator. I keep mine at 1" and they work just fine.
