Turn Signal Question

I have a question about my 1977 F100 that i bought recently. When I use the turn signals, they do not go off after I finish the turn. To my knowledge this is normal. So, my question is; is it supposed to go off after the turn. If so, where and which part do I need to replace. If not, is there something that makes the clicking louder. Thanks!

Yes they should turn off when you return the steering wheel to center. Do you have an aftermarket, or later model, steering wheel? The steering wheel is supposed to have a little tab on its hub, which is supposed to hit the self-canceling cams and turn off the signals.
It's possible that the cams are broken, and will need replaced, or a whole new turn signal switch.

Welcome to FTE!!!

It does have an aftermarket wheel, and Im not exactly planning on replacing it. Is there some way I can make it work with this? If not is there a way to make the relay louder?

They do make loud flasher units for those people who have difficulty hearing. The other possibilities are that your aftermarket steering wheel does not have the roll pin that catches the cancelling cam when the steering wheel returns to center....or that the cancelling mechanism is broken. They are inexpensive, but a bit of a pain in the horse to replace. You can only know if you pull the steering wheel and check it. My opinion...I would fix it so that it functions the way it was intended...

Could you leave a link to a product or tell me a company you suggest that makes them?

A quick search for musical flasher brings up the ever popular one that plays "Love Me Tender" and a search for beeping turn signal flasher brings up the turnalarm among others. They even give you a diagram of how it's made, should be very easy to copy.

My '65 Mustang had one rated for towing, it was electro-mechanical with a solenoid and a gear driven flywheel. Went clack whizz clack whizz. I thought it was cool.
