I need some help with a battery!

I need some advise on a good new battery for my 87’ Bronco II. I have use for several years now, the batteries manufactured by “Batteries Plus”, at least I guess they are manufacture them. They seem to be all right, however I’m on my second one on this vehicle after relocating to Alaska. Perhaps the cold is the culprit here and not to battery manufacture?
My question is regarding “Optima” batteries? Does anyone have any experience with those batteries? Are they worth the extra money? I know that they are really sealed unlike most of the maintenance free batteries. Any ideas, comments or opinions would greatly be appreciated.

Best regards,

John

I haven't used one yet, but most of the professional race teams I see are using them in all of their vehicles. I've seen 5 yr old ones out here in the desert and they still work. Compared to conventional batteries that usually die in 2 or 3 years at the most. I also believe that there is no way for them to freeze up like a standard car battery can. They have gel not water and acid mix so they cannot freeze. I would think that this would lend them to cold weather operation much better.Since it's twice as expensive, if it lasts twice as long and never leaves you stranded somewhere that could be life and death I would say that it is probably worth the money.
