A few years ago I smacked the front of a Hyundi. I thoink it was one of the older "puke" models (they didn't make them for long) The "new Canadian" at the wheel pulled out and I hit him from the side at about 25 mph. The centre of the Big Girl was about even with the front wheel of the junk heap.
Damage to Hyundi - Right front wheel removed c/w hub and some other hdwr. Right front of car destroyed including head light, signal light and much other plastic that was peices too small to ID, hood crumpled lengthwise, left from fender mashed at the top by hood, rad smashed, grill smashed, door post smashed. A rainbow of fluids appeared under car.
Damage to Bronco - Left side of bumper pushed in , scratched paint on fender behind bumper. Ashtray emptied contents (have had this happen before when I was rear ended by lipstick lady).
Luckily no one was hurt. These trucks hit like Bruce Smith or Jack Hamm in their prime. Anybody else got an anecdote to tell ?
i do.
i got rearended, on the third of this month. it was a three car accident, the guy in the middle had a 82 olds 4 door junker and the last guy had a 89 toyota corolla. but anyway the middle car was all steel, his rear driver side panel was destroyed. the left rear tire was flat and his axle broke.
where he hit me on the front, his headlight was gone, bumper pushed in and grille messed up. all i got was a little whiplash and my bumper pushed down. the license plate looked at the ground. u couldn't read my number. i don't think there's any frame damage.
I got 2.....First I was rear ended about 2 yrs ago by some putz in a Nissan z car, ya know, the little ones with a ramp for a hood. His hood was almost all the way to his windshield and his engine was sitting on the ground. really didnt have a front end anymore. My rear bumper was fixed. It was tweaked a bit at one end before he hit me. And he knocked some dirt off of my fuel tank skid plate. The other, I was out wheeling with a buddy who had an old 70s chevy p/u all lifted an all. We got caught in a small dead end trail so I did a 2 point turn around. I had to get my front wheels over this log to get enough room to back up , and when I hopped the log, the left front fender hit a tree that was close by. All it did was buckle the fender just a tad by the marker light. So slight, unless you know it happened, you cant tell it did. My buddy did the same thing, and it was funnier than hell. WHen he hit the same tree, first, his fencer buckled in the center, top to bottom that you would think he hit a pole sideways. Then when he finally finished his 6 point turn, he had the left tire to get up over a log for the last time. When he dropped off of it, hehe so did his fender. It fell to the ground and so did I laughing. GO FORD!!!!!
I got one for ya. Was just sitting in traffic when a kid and his buddies came barreling up on me. I even thought to myself that this fool is going to hit me. Well, he did - by the time he locked up his brakes and hit me, he was probably going 10 mph or less. His front end was pushed in about 8 inches, and stuck to my trailer hitch (which I keep on). As for my Bronco...nada scratch!
Kind of felt bad when I pulled forward to release him from my hitch, and heard all his bumper plastic parts snapping and cracking and hitting the concrete
A couple of years ago I was waiting for a red light to turn green while sitting under an overpass. While waiting for lights I usually keep an eye on vehicles comming up behind me so I watched this early 80's Ford van pull up behind me and come to a stop. At that point I looked forward and continued to wait then I heard this screech behind me and that tell-tale crunchy thud. Before I knew it the van behind me had bounced into me three times. After everything settled down I got out to survey the damage. My truck ended up with no damage, the guy had bounced off my trailer hitch and left a little oxydized paint on my tire carrier. I made a small dent on his already goobered up front bumper. I then went to go find out what hit him and lo and behold I find a squished nissan sentra half in the rear dorrs of his van and half under it. Apparently the lady who was driving it thought she saw traffic moving from the light and never hit the brakes until it was too late and gave the van behind me an enima.
Story #2 My friend's "run-in" with a big bronco....
In late 99 my friend went out and purchased one of those over priced under powered Chevy S-10 Extremes. This truck was his pride and joy but ever since this incident he has been looking to unload it. Flash forward a couple of years. He is on his first date with this girl and they decide to go to the Irvine spectrum to go see a movie and whatnot. As soon as he gets off the freeway he gets into the left hand lane but then realizes he needs to be in the right hand lane so he starts making his right hand turn, right into a left turning 92-96 white bronco. even though the collision was only at about 15 MPH his truck sustained about 7K worth of damage. His truck was on the verge of being totaled out. Here is a shortlist of what had to be repaired or replaced: right front 1/4 panel, right door, header assembly, hood, body mounts (the cab got shoved into the bed) some cosmetic repair on the rear of the cab and last but not least the forward portion of the frame. The damage to the bronco? Left front 1/4 panel had a bung in it right at the crease on the bottom. It was pretty funny because when he hit the bronco he thought he had hit me. Oh and the date? she never called him back... typical.
Yet another testimony to the strength of the Bronco. A driver of a Mercedes turned right into my driver side door on my 88 XLT. He claimed to never see me, but how you miss a Bronco in broad daylight is beyond me. Anyway, he totaled his nice Benz up to the fire wall. As for my Bronco, it sustained a dent in the driver side door, and a tweaked rear bumper. Oh, and the rust fell out of the rear wheel well.
I lived in Brooklyn for a while. I had quite a few laughs watching people's headlights/taillights shatter when they tried to parallel park using using their bumpers as guides. They try to squeeze in behind me and "feel their way" into the spot. Oh, and many a cabbie came out on the losing end of my bumper too! I love it.
well, i have a sad story, before i owned my bronco, my friends mom owned it. i was out w/ them at the mall during a windstorm. as we walked into the parking lot i saw a shopping cart barroling across a parkinglot to strike nothing more then the drivers side door of the truck. well i bought it anyway its no longer a "mom's" grecery getter eaither. ps the door still has a huge dent
