Storage box above tailpipe?
I have a 2012 flatbed F350 on which I am putting a Four Wheel Camper. The camper doesn’t have much storage so I am thinking about adding some steel boxes beneath the flatbed. The original owner had 24x12x12” inch boxes under the bed behind the cab, but there is space there for a 36x12x12” box, so I’m thinking about mounting the 24s behind the rear wheels, and putting new 36s where the 24s were.
This would put the passenger side 24 inch box directly above the tailpipe (with a few inches of clearance.). Installation would require rejiggering the mud flat mount but otherwise it seems like it would fit. My question is, would there be any issues with heat from the tailpipe affecting the box or its contents? I know a lot of heat is created during the DPF regen and don’t want burnt paint or roasted box contents!
thanks for any shared experience.
Mike
