Yeah. That is true. Cost is about 300 from RockAuto for Melling.

You sure? I just bought a set of melling lash adjusters for mine and it was $115 for 20 at rockauto , just installed them today in fact.

Is there any danger of having to replace your cam and lifters if you just replace the lifters? When I was young, replaced the lifters on a v-8 Chevy, and it ate out the cam and lifters in just a month or so. Had to replace both.

Impressed, to say the least! Hell, Ford may be reading this post and say, "Damn, why are sales of 7.3 Godzillas so low!" The 2V V10 is what I have, and am hoping, with proper maintenance, and I can get 50% of the miles you got. This has caused me to pause / delete my thoughts of a new 7.3 G.

Red face my v10 rebuild

I'm almost finishing up with my v10 rebuild. Mine kicked the bucket at 300,000 -spun main rod bearings. I should have been smarter and paid better attention to the oil pressure. I just bought a remanufactured engine from motorcraft/a physical Ford dealer. All the motorcraft parts have good warranties. The engine has 100k warranty. I've just been getting everything motorcraft off Rock Auto, however, you only have 30 day to return something, which could end up being a battle in the future. I did get a defective IAC past the window, but they sent me a new one when I threatened to find a new parts supplier. On top of the 3500 reman engine I've probably spent around 3 or so thousand on parts but replaced just about everything from condenser core to hoses. Reusing some of the old power steering and cooler lines. Haven't even gotten to the axles yet. One day I want to try an engine rebuild, but I'm not quite ready for that yet. I think I'll wait to be successful on a mower engine or something before I try.

I like the fram ph2.. Seen alot recommendations not to use this filter but shows that those had no merit. Keep us updated and if you could make a list of everything done/replaced after that would be great, thanks.

Well that's good to know. It was pretty confusing when I clicked on return and it the website came back saying "Past Window time frame" and there was more confusion on how to claim a warranty or if that was even an option. Eventually I sent an email, but there was little or no direction on how to do so that I could find at least. Making things fully idiot proof is the key to success.

Talked to the shop where my F-450 is to get syncronizer fixed on my 6 speed manual, they said Ford recommends to change the timing chains at 250,000. Considering doing mine a little early as the oil was very dirty when I bought it. No oil use, but seems the hydraulic tensioners are the failure point.

Sorry for the slow reply. The price i was talking about included lash adjusters, valve springs, and the keepers. I also replaced all of the rockers too but that cost a little extra and was cheaper to buy from Autozone.

I bought almost all of my parts for the engine rebuild from RockAuto. The shipping was reasonable and relatively quick. I had 1 problem with my timing chain set and RockAuto took care of everything pretty quickly. You have 30 days to return parts to them and then you have the full manufacturers warranty from that point. RockAuto even takes care of the shipping for the parts return in the first thirty days, I would not hesitate to buy parts from them again.

If you tried to lift up a link of chain on top of the big sprocket, could you move it up a little. That is how you tell if a chain is worn, or stretched. Know you need to replace the hydraulic tensioners and guides.

I just stumbled upon this thread. Most impressive engine reliability!

Couple questions to the OP if you please.

One, you didn't mention fuel filters in your rundown of regular maintenance. Was this also on your maintenance schedule? And also, what fuel do you regularly use?

Second, you said you Hot Shotted with this truck. 5k in the bed and another 10k in tow. I have to ask- how in the world did you manage to eek a profit with this rig considering the amount of fuel it was probably consuming? That's an honest question BTW. I'm not trying to be a smart ***.

I did not have any play in the chain before the rebuild. To be honest i could have easily gone back with the timing set but replaced it since I was tearing it down completely. I replaced the chains, sprockets, guides, and tensioners. Got all these parts from Rock Auto.
