Hello everyone
Looking at buying a cheap reliable idi for daily use. I am looking at one and the owner sayes it need glow plugs and injectors. He also mentions that it smokes white once it gets warmed up. I had him send me a video of the truck running and I have attached it. I see no smoke but am unsure about the noise the engine is making. Is that the sound of a bad injector(s) or do you think there is more going on here. Just looking for a bit of advice from the knowledge of the community lol. And with it making said noise. Would it be safe to drive home if I bought it(170miles)
thanks in advance everyone!
To me, just sounds like an IDI at a high idle.
Don`t notice any abnormal sounds. at least
through my computer.
Looks like a clean truck. What`s the asking price?
How many miles on it? 4 x 4, auto trans, year etc....
If it needs injectors and or Glow Plugs, no big deal.
$80 for GP, and $400 or so for Injectors. Should
replace the IP same time you do Injectors if high
mileage. It`s mentioned here on the Forum to
replace both at 150K or so miles.
When you go to see it. best if the owner does not
start it to have it already warmed up. Then you can
see how she starts cold, and also see if he uses starter
fluid to get her to fire off.
Too bad the guy doing the video gave such a quickie
over view.
Well the responses so far are a relief. Something sounded off to me from the video. Been a few years since I had a diesel though. Last was a 5.9 Cummins. Truck is a 90 f250 auto with a banks sidewinder. Truck has 179k auto 2wd. Looking to pick it up for bout 1k
