I have a 1997 F250 HD 7.5 litre. The truck will randomly die, then after a few minutes able to restart back up.
No surging or loading just shuts off like the electrical or gas shut off. Problem will happen with either tank so i don't believe it is a fuel issue.
When the trucks shut down i will still have accessory function, lights, heater, radio, etc just no spark. It seems to be heat related.
Thank you
With a failing PIP you would have a code in CM.
I dough that a ground would cool off and let it restart.
Other items would be fuel pump, PCM, ICM and the Ignition coil.
I have not seen anybody with a bad PCM for a 1996 or newer on this forum yet and the Black remote mounted ICM is very unlikely.
That leaves the PIP the most likely with the Ignition coil in second that could cause it.
the truck never has created an error code. it is the first DBI system, but never drives an engine error or code. it will just randomly shut down. at idle or 2,500rpm does not matter the engine speed.
the truck is the older style truck. so the ignition and pdm are driven out of the electronic engine control module. i have not replaced the coil but my history is they either work or don't work.
thank you for helping me on this.
