Estimated Horse Power
Howdy all. I'm trying to figure my estimated hp. The motor is a 73 429 out of an LTD. It's been bored .030 with stock type pistons, stock valves and heads. (4bbl) The cam is .478 is the best I could tell. Double roller timing chain, Hedman headers w/ 2 1/4 exhaust with summit turbo mufflers dumped in front of the rear tires. Pertonix ign. in place of points. Offy. 360 dual port (lowriser). Holley 750 cfm w/dual line feed, and a K & N 14" X 4" air filter. I've estimated it at 375 to maybe 400 hp. Am I close or way off? Thanks.

I'd say it'd be good enough to see S-10's dis-appearing in your rear-view mirror as I do all the time. My 460 is set up about the same - a Lunati cam; little longer duration for that "thump-thump-thump" through Thrush mufflers at the stop-n-go lights...I'd have to say I have at least 350 - 400 under my big toe....

I was guessing on the cam. I bought it on ebay which said it was stock but I got no info on the cam. Just a new one made by Avalon or Avon Automotives. I've got the engine in a 58 F100 with a big back glass. Next job will be a posi unit. It's also got a C-6 with a shift kit in it. The offy came off a boat and the previous owner ported the holes alittle where the carb sits. Thanks for the reply!

They are still new, but too quiet. I prefer the flowmasters. They only cost $15.00(summit). I'd expect them to wear out real fast. They have a small rumble but not throaty enough for me. I picked up a 428 awhile back and have plans to install in my 59 4x4 panel truck.
