Does anyone sell metal replacement hoods or repair panels? Front of my hood is falling apart and would love to save it but I don’t have that kind of sheet metal skill.
No patch panels available have to do rust repair weld in probably best to get a better hood if you are not up to that kind of fab work. No offence but by the picture of your truck look to be a bit rusty in other places as well might be time to hit you tube for some how to rust repair info you will either fall in love with the truck or totally hate it just how ever much work and learning you want to do.
I've got a 58 F100..the grill looks pretty much the same..the openings in the hood
are different and I did tons of metal work on it.
I found the metal to be of a good enough quality that an amateur "car builder" like me could pound on it with hammers and dollies,
and weld pieces here and there with my little mig welder that I learned how to weld through a book..videos now..but I started
decades ago.
My point is..its not that hard to do your own body work..paint too if you're into it..I've done both with pretty good success..by my standards.
If you have the time and interest..its fun..it can take years..so that's an issue. Especially if you go the frame off route..which has been
my habit..You gotta have the space etc. And you gotta be able to get through the "i hate my truck years" because it can take a long
time to "get it done".. haha..and you will likely hate it at some point..but in the end its worth it..?..i think?
Tomget very nice trucks. Any custom touches to the stock hood? pics if you did. I agree with everything you said. The time it takes, the love, hate relationship because it does get overwhelming at times. But one has to realize if you are at that point, you have to walk away for a day or so then come back and usually will fall into place or soon afterwards. I think that's why the are so many projects that guys walked away from. For me it's in my blood, it's my medication, it's my therapy.
lol 80% of this truck was/is rust ive done my fair share of rust repair also why i didnt feel bad hacking it to bits to crown vic frame swap. i know i can eventually re build this hood piece by piece but you need to pick your battles sometimes and if i could get some of the intricate shapes already made it would make things that much quicker/easier. also time and space there are so many other parts of this project that are taking priority and i dont have a grage to work in during the winter. trying to get ahead of the curve before this hood falls completely apart while im working on other things.
How about some pics of the truck? I just realized I do have a hood that has dings and bings on it.(57-58 I know it's different than your 60 hood) And I never figured I would use it but, This was one of those package deals Just have not really looked at it close enough. I have other hoods and parts that I will use on the other builds that I want as i have my mini yard of parts I have collected over the years.(ask the little woman I bet that story is different)
I went with a friend to California and went in on a deal with him. And he got a 59 hood that had seen it's better days and I gave it to him. I can see if he still has it for maybe patch panels? Hopefully he did not scrap or sell it. I also gave him a grill guard that I probably could have sold.
Don’t have too many glamor shots it’s far from done. Windshield wipers are probably next priority have to figure out how to get the Vic motor (full circle) to wag the f100 arms
Hey G Low..luv that crown vic suspension that's the best
Truck looks great...ya NO SHOP REALLY SUCKS..I grew up in fancy house family and we never had a garage!! and it
was in rainy Oregon..Willamette valley..I got used to doing what I could..but ya you need cover
these big outdoor awning like things in my pic..work real good here in Northern Calif where I've lived most
of my adult life..but I have that shop you..see..I built that first..it makes all the difference in the world..yes a floor! omg
