But, given your well articulated position on OCIs, I am bewildered as to your desire to obtain a UOA.
Maybe just plain curiosity, I suppose.
Dragging this thread back to life mostly because I've sent an oil sample 6,325 miles and 4 months to Blackstone for analysis including the TBN. During that time my driving and engine idling times have been much the same as I normally experience.
Regarding why I submit this sample giving I'm not convinced extended OCI's are to my benefit one can surmise its more a matter of curiosity than any current fear or grave concerns. I'm sure I'll still be using my 3K OCI but when/if I go further I'll be more comfortable if the Blackstone results are encouraging.
I'll post those results here for anyone who's curious.
Update (of sorts) about Blackstone: I sent my sample off a few days ago and once payment was received and USPS showed the pre-paid return mailer tracking number was in their system it seems Blackstone sent me--free of charge---another sample kit for next time. Nice touch, IMHO.
The new kit is good practice for this type of "follow-on business" & Blackstone had already included the next sample kit & its mailing cost into the first go around cost, so no loss if we don't resample & they've planted a good will business seed, that just might sprout later on. Smart, no cost to them, business practice!!!
Will be interesting to hear how the oil held up in your engine, drive cycle & weather conditions.

You're right---great practice on Blackstone's part encouraging us to submit follow up samples "free of charge". With the new kit already in hand why not?
I will definitely post the test results once they've been returned to me.

For at least 40 years I've changed oil closer to the 3K mark, always changed the filter at the same time. I'm still a bit hesitant letting engine oil go those extended intervals, perhaps once the Blackstone test is back I might extend my OCI a bit but certainly not close to 10K.
My little initial Blackstone experience has turned into a comedy of sorts---the submitted sample seems lost in the USPS Christmas rush!
It was sent in their pre-paid mailer the 16th of this month from Columbus, OH. In the time since its been spotted in Cincinnati, then onto Cleveland then to Toledo---theoretically bound for Ft Wayne IN!
At this rate hard telling when it will be received.
So my Blackstone results are available and I'd love to share them here but not sure how to embed the .pdf as received because too much personal information is part of the report.
Anyone know how to easily redact or black out certain portions of a .pdf without it costing anything?
Or, if your more mechanically minded, you could use black vinyl electrical tape on the screen over the info you want to edit out & do a smart phone screen shot of the edited info you want to put out & post the tape edited smart phone screen shot.
Well JWA did you get it figured out, after you finished all the snow shoveling, we'd all like to see the UOA!!!
I'll get on that UOA--thanks for the reminder PawPaw---its attached here now.
The snow shoveling I did was minimal---more ice trapped under a fairly thick blanket of snow covering that. It's slowly melting away, I have a safe walk to the work truck out the front door.
I think you forgot to edit out your personal info???
Good single digit wear numbers & remaining base number, on this Motorcraft 5W20, for 6325 miles up in cold country OH. So this engine in your climate & drive cycle, is wearing well with single digit numbers, using this viscosity & service grade lube & oil filter.
This 20K mile Ford reman replacement engine using one qt of oil in the 6325 miles is a little mystifying to me, as the oil didn't shear out of grade, measured a good flash point but we don't know the Motorcraft 5W20 NOACK number, so evaporation, valve guide weeping, rings, bore cross-hatch finish, external oil leak, or some combo there-of, remain on the consumption suspect list.
Here is a PQIA consolidated list of 5W20 SN NOACK & other measured values. CONSOLIDATED DATA ON 5W-20s EXAM (pqiamerica.com)
A number of SN lubes NOACK % Evaporation went Up. Motorcraft 5w20 SN was15.2%, so in your 05 5.4L V8 6qt sump, it looks like you could lose / 6qt X 0.152% noack evaporation = .912 qt, real close to what you posted was added over the 6325 mile oci !!!
SO, if the UOA results has you thinking about trying to lower oil consumption, to try & mitigate combustion chamber & valve deposits, consider choosing a lower NOACK recipe lube from the list & see how it goes. More thoughts for consideration.
