My fresh 390 is running all stock style ignition, and it's wore out, won't hold adjustment, and causing great headaches starting issues and likely part of the culprit to my backfire issues, which is taking out exhaust manifold gaskets at an alarming rate.
Is there an all parts included kit out there to convert?
A friend of a friend has successifully converted EFI mustang electronics to his FE, but, I'm not sure I'm that talanted.
Hey cleanLX, A maritimer in AZ. That accent must raise some eyebrows! Anyways Mark try doing seperate searches using the keywords "pertronix" and "duraspark" These would be the quickest, easiest and cheapest methods of getting an electronic ignition into your ride. The pertronix is an aftermarket drop in ignition that is really good. The other choice is to use a duraspark ignition system from a post 74 ford engine. Just make sure you grab all the harnesses, distributor and ignition module. It is also basically a drop in procedure.
Good luck

Oh boy, does it ever. haha.
I'll search pertronix... not sure I want to steal electricial parts off a junk'd '74.
I've recently been told crane makes a kit too. Anyone know about those or how they compare to the pertronix one?
EDIT:
Proper search going back 6 months has answer'd all my questions.
This site is great.
I like the MSD6a or the Duraspark. The MSD will work with points or a Duraspark distributor. If you use points, they will last a long time because the MSD only uses them as a trigger, low current draw.
