F150 Overheating

My 2018 3.5 ecoboost engine and transmission overheats when pulling a grade with a trailer for much distance at low speed (rough mountain roads under 20 mph). The first time this happened the engine actually went into shut-down mode and tranny was at 244 degrees. Since then I've found I can avoid this by shifting into 4 X 4 Low but that seems like less than a great idea. The local ford dealer tells me Ford is aware of the problem but has issued no fix. Any suggestions?

Not a common issue, are the fans not coming on? There was early build gen two 3.5 built from 2017-2018 that had weak thermostats and should be replaced.
